Can we has new speed?

No it’s 5/4. There is no such thing as 5/6

Oops ya, but there is 5/6 it’s just an irrational time signature

Well you could have a 6th note which is like an 1/8th note triplet. You could suppose that it could be a thing but it just isn’t and 5 6th notes in a bar starts to make my head hurt lol

There should be a reaction emoji for that “whoosh” over-the-head sound. I used to understand all this stuff pretty well but then those neurons were destroyed in a fire. I vote for random challenges that I probably won’t have time to complete.

There is a cool beat-dissected article on Attack Mag about DnB in 5/4 that I tried to recreate. My version never fit into a tolerable song unfortunately.

Well you would have a month to mess around with it. We need to pick one out soon. Before the month starts.

Are the Sunday embers streams going to be once a month going forward? Or just whenever? I may have missed an important post.

Dude, I’m planning on suing Oura and Dyna for brain damage I got trying to understand all this. :sob: :face_with_spiral_eyes: :exploding_head: :face_with_head_bandage:

J/k. Actually, I watched a few videos that explained how notes work. Gonna watch a few more, so that when I see Oura’s next video, I’ll have a head start.

Anyways, Oura or anyone else, it would be awesome to see you explain this in a video. I’m much better at understanding stuff when I see it.

The problem with me is I’m not good explaining things. I can show you some stuff and answer questions but I’m not an educator. And some of those beginner videos almost seem like they are talking to you like a child but you can’t understand more complex ideas if you don’t have a solid understanding of the basics. And I have watched some of them over and over until it all sunk it. Along with practical application. But I can’t talk about the the application.

So would people like to do a non 4/4 time signature track for the August challenge? Pretty easy to get something sounding nice in 3/4, 5/4, 7/4 or 6/8 for example. Next level is 7/8, 9/8 ….If you want to go nuts, 13/16 is terrible. I remember a Balkan band that liked to play in 11/16 which is also very confusing but cool when done right (I can’t)

I’m all up for a new tempo myself. Somewhere around the 100bpm mark give or take a handful of bpm would be nice for some hip hop style stuff imo IMO TBF

I didn’t start trying to make music or learn theory until well into my late 30’s. I guess I’m on the other side of the fence where I now understand much of the theory and technical aspects but am a lousy musician. I struggle with composition, have a lousy ear, and the attention span of a gnat.

I’m more of a tinkerer and explorer where I tend to enjoy the journey more than the destination.

I really like 100BPM. I was into the twerky danceable bass shit that was big 10 years ago in the US clubs.

I’m cool with that. I have definitely done some odd meters.

100 bpm seems too orthodox though just some normal sounding even number
it is a good bpm though

101

so stick hop can finally become a real genre
